In Psychology Today (May 2018), Dr. Peter Gray cited a study report that showed “a continuous increase in the rate of psychiatric emergencies during school weeks, but not during vacation weeks over the 4-year period of the study.” The reasons vary from academic demands and peer pressures to disinterest and plain boredom.

The reasons vary from academic pressures, peer pressures, disinterest, and plain boredom. At Lake Travis STEM Academy we make learning fun by creating real world curriculum and experiences to provide students with engaging, supportive, and authentic lessons/projects.
As an experienced educator, we have seen the limits of a traditional approach to teaching through a repetitive cycle of rote memorization and standardized testing: a neglect for conceptual understanding and real-world applications; a failure to inspire; an inefficacy with regard to long-term retention.
Lake Travis STEM Academy elegantly addresses key shortcomings of the traditional model for education that many of us grew up with. If you find this alternative approach compelling, Future Set Tech Camp might be a great fit for your child as well.

These kids created several designs from scratch, presented their designs to actual engineers and had to go through multiple iterations to get their designs and construction plan approved! They built miniature models of their designs, budgeted and shopped for materials prior to building the entire system from the ground up under the supervision of knowledgeable adults. Check out the video we made of the whole effort.
