Elementary School Academics
Academics at Lake Travis STEM Academy’s elementary school are hands-on, creative and collaborative. In our makerspace, which we have nicknamed, “The Collaboratory,” disparate subjects are integrated and applied to projects tied to a yearly phenomenon.
Spanish language instruction begins in kindergarten. Students gain an appreciation for other cultures and strengthen reading comprehension skills, among other cognitive benefits.
Every student has their own dedicated mobile computing device, which they use to learn and apply skills such as block-based coding, research or 3d modeling. Digital citizenship lessons equip students to stay safe and engage respectfully.
Makerspace
(The Collaboratory)
Our Collaboratory is a collaborative space full of tools,
materials and technology.
Students work together to create, explore, and meet
engineering challenges.
Cross-Curricular
Integration
Through our phenomenon-based learning model, traditionally isolated school subjects are integrated and applied to projects centered around real-world problems.
Technology
Skills
Elementary students use technology toward creative, collaborative ends, including block-based coding, 3d modeling, research and digital citizenship curriculum.
Elementary School Community and Culture
Our elementary school culture is intentionally influenced through dedicated social-emotional learning, in which students develop skills in self awareness, self management and social awareness, along with relationship skills and responsible decision-making.
Elementary students are mentored by older students through our “Big Buddy, Little Buddy” program. Monthly activities and hand-made gift exchanges extend each student’s community beyond their classroom to include the entire school.
